Abuja to Host Series of Cultural and Recreational Events This December

Abuja is set to come alive this December as The Emerging Abuja Projects roll out a month-long line-up of cultural, recreational and tourism-focused activities under the Groovy December programme.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the National Coordinator of the programme, Dr. Kenneth Ibe-Kalu, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

According to the statement, activities will kick off with a series of pre-events featuring the Groovy Speed Festival, which will showcase rally cross and time-attack displays. The speed festival is scheduled to hold at Idu by 1:00pm on Sunday, with a follow-up session at Jabi by 5:00pm the same day.

The main Groovy December event is slated for December 15 and will feature a wide range of cultural and recreational activities. These include a culture fest, traditional wrestling, horse riding, boat and bike rides, kayaking, skating, table tennis, local games, and a tie-and-dye (Adire) workshop. Other highlights are music performances, comedy acts, snooker games, a suya fest, tea exhibition, and eating competitions, alongside other attractions designed to engage families, tourists and fun-seekers.

The programme will also host the Emerging Abuja Diaspora Investment Forum on December 17 at BON Pearl Hotel, located along Alex Ekwueme Way, Jabi, Abuja. The forum is scheduled to commence at 9:00am and is aimed at fostering investment discussions and diaspora engagement.

On December 23, a Groovy December Golf Kitty Tournament will take place at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Golf Course, NAF Base, Airport Road, Abuja, with tee-off set for 6:30am.

The organisers further disclosed that Groovy December Guided Tours will run from December 15 to 31, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to explore key attractions across the Federal Capital Territory. A Groovy December Marketplace will also be available throughout the period, providing a platform for local traders while offering shoppers and visitors a vibrant festive experience.

According to the statement, the Groovy December programme is designed to promote culture, tourism, community engagement and economic activity in Abuja during the festive season.
